take it for a spin with the cable removed and you will know if it is involved or not.
also check up under the front fender for crap that can be contacting the tire or wheel when moving. With the front wheel off the ground can you hear anything when you spin the wheel?

        front end noise

        Rob/ all others with feedback,

After getting over the appearance of my bike after yesterday,
I unscrewed the speedometer cable at the base and took it for a trial run---No more Noise.

Does that mean the cable is bad or the guage itself is going out?

        Thanks

          Re: front end noise

Well the cable drive gear will be moving even when the cable is disconnected so if I were you at this point I would spin the cable on t he bench with a drill and see if the noise is recreated. If not and the cable moves freely there is an issue in the speedo itself. DON'T spin it too fast with the drill eh.

            front end noise

            Hey Rob,

I'll do that and hope that is the noise maker. I do have a spare set of guages but no spare cables.

            Thanks

              Lube it

Just take it out and put some oil on it and put it back in the housing.

While I think I did mention the cable,
the drive still could be the culpert as w/o the cable connected it has no load. (putting some grease there does not hurt)

Would hang the cable with a piece if plastic taped around the top portion (like a funnel) then add a little oil. Leave until oil drips out bottom end.
