  • 4th gear grind

My tranny grinds upon shifting into 4th , either shifting up or down (down is easier) . It isnt serious enough to slow me down yet , but someday a fix will be necesary . Anybody have this problem on a XJ ?

yeah when i false neutral, between 4 and 5 or somewhere around there i dread trying to go back into gear, cause i'm always gonna chip a tooth, or maybe someone knows that these things don't chip, then halleujah!!

I have a little bit of a grind, but not much. Try looking under the cover on the left side, and verify the shifter is correctly adjusted. check the "tech tips", transmissions from the main page. It may halp, or at least get you some more time for riding before a "winter teardown".

        cant find the thread

I was talking with T.C. (I think) or Trbig about this before but I cant locate the thread . Searching doesnt seem to produce anything on a 4th gear problem . I remember reading why there seems to be a neutral between 4th and 5th but my grind is between 3rd and 4th . All other shifts are smooth except whatever is to be expected going from 1st to 2nd .
