    1. What is the general condition of your bike's engine? How many miles?

    2. What year of FJ1200 did your carbs come from?

Hey Ben, my bikes engine has good compression with 36k on it.
Not sure what year FJ my carbs are from, I think they are all the same.

the main issues were re-routing the oil feed line and finding a throttle cable with the correct fittings on either end. I also had to make a cable holder at the carbs. (ill post some pics)

Ben, I went to my local parts yard and went digging for the right cable, the FJ uses a push -pull cable (2 cables) but I went with just the pull. the cable stay on the carbs was the the crux of the job. I cut and re-welded the fj cable holder to work with my new cable. (higher than stock)
You MUST restrict the vacuum advance line. I used a small pilot jet inline (read this thread, i mention my tech early on), no restriction and the timing advance bangs itself very loudly.

      ill post some pics tomorrow....
      hope this helps.

The FJ carbs transformed my slug into a smooth running power machine. And with enough weight on the rear of the bike (my 110 pound wife) we get 3rd gear wheelies.

They also use a push-pull cable system. I will probably have to get a longer cable for sure. Also, the mains are 124 - I didn't check the pilots. But those will be too rich. I should have some leaner mains anyway.

I'll see what kind of cold weather motivation I can muster up...

I forget my jetting but I left it as it was, 124's sound familiar.

          PICS!
          the cable holder

notice different threaded end on new cable.

the oil line has to move to the right, the carb linkage will hit it.

pilot jet from EX500 for vacuum line.

the stock air box should work but I used individuals.

          Good luck,

            Okay, thanks for that, Brooks.

My carbs are from the 1985 model.

So you aren't sure what year/make/model that cable was from?

I'd really like to know what your compression readings were. Do you get anything higher than 120 out there?

Gosh I wish I knew... I literally dug through a huge pile of cables till I found one with the correct ends that was about 3 inches longer than stock.

My comp readings were all around 130.

Oh crap!! I found one on ebay but it's freeking 25 bucks. That would be 50 bucks for inline fiiters. Tell me I can find em for cheaper than that.

Okay, thanks for the info, Brooks. I think your bike and mine should be pretty close, then. I probably won't get around to trying out the FJ carbs on the XS for a bit, at least until I see what the ZRX1200 carbs will do.

I am going to do some more testing on my ZRX carbs. Right now they work great. See this thread...

I may end up not even trying the FJ carbs. If I do not, is anyone interested in purchasing the ones I have?
