  • She is ready to go!!

I just got her back together, took her for a test ride, and everything looks good. I did the following:

    - new Metzeler Lasertec tires - spun balanced
    - removed and greased the final drive - splines looked good
    - new coils from Mikes XS and wires
    - removed the ballast resistor
    - removed the RLU
    - rewired the headlight with relays
    - installed a Sylvania SilverStar lamp
    - installed the fuse block from TopCat
    - flushed out the brake lines - pads ok
    - new Westco battery
    - synchronized the carbs

She is handling great, more power and throttle response, and now I have a real headlight.
Looking forward to this weekend, when I can spend more time on her. This is a fun bike.

Ahhh I did see that one and also another but the email address listed is no longer valid. I'll try the internet and see if I can order this one. Stuck in Iraq so have to do it all online.

            Thanks for the help.

No, I just bought a new harness a while back before I found this site. The bike has been sitting for 20 years or more. I travel a lot so haven't had time to do much. Been in Iraq 3 years now so hope to get it going next summer. It used to be a friends bike since we were in high school and he just parked it when it quit running (electrical) so i took it off his hands after looking at it covered in his garage all those years. Probably get rid of it if I don't work on it as i have others I am working on also.

                  62 trvler,
If you ride the bike one time, you won't "get rid of it". There are a LOT of bikes out there, but NONE that will do everything the XS1100 will.
Just follow the "tech tips" from the MAIN forum page, and it WILL be running well soon.

Thanks, I have ridden one. I used to own a brand new 1980 that I got in a crate when i used to work for Yamaha. It was a factory left over and I got it for $2200.00 in 1986 and watched it put together. Unfortunately I sold it when the kids started coming with 2500 miles on it but she served me well and was the smoothest bike I have ever owned. Whipped a mach mustang one day from a light when he started revving his motor. Buried the speedo and left him in the dust....................................I think he may have gone out and bought one the next day. My buddies father used to have one also so we would take it out sometimes when we were low on gas money and do wheelies down the freeway at 70 mph 2 up, it was a full dresser, stupid but you are bullet proof at tjhat age. He was a great driver and thought of getting him into racing with one of my bikes but were older now and his wife might not let him now.

I am not aware of this fix. What does it involve?

                          Speaking of fuse blocks.....

Anyone know what became of the ones Indy Rick used to sell? Direct bolt-in replacement, had the advantage of having circuit name and fuse size etched into the aluminum backing plate. One side was for Standards, other was for Specials...there is a little difference in the circuit order, I understand. Mounting holes all drilled and came with corect size bolts.

I have one on my XJ which I bought in either '99 or 2000. Turned out it doesn't fit under the XJ side cover, but I am looking at using the backing plate with a newer low-profile block. I think Tkat made them for Indy. Anyway, if anyone knows what happened to Indy (Rick Jamison) please let me know.
