Well... the motor is still purring along, but the tranny bit the dust I guess?!? I'm assuming I bent a shift fork somehow. It messed up while I was just putting around town. (HONEST!) It wouldn't shift down to neutral or 1st.

I rode it today again since my son in college has my car. On my way home from work, I downshifted to second pulling onto my road... and there it stays. No up or down.

So as I prepared to marry more used parts together to make something that runs, the machinist calls and says my cylinders are done. I had them bored and honed.

So... looks like I now begin the 1179 rebuild on the first motor.

Have I mentioned how incredibly tired I am of pulling this %$#* thing apart? This will be the 4th time I think in the last 2 months. Maybe this will get me by for a while... I hope.

      Tod,
Do a search BEFORE you tear into it too much. You may have a problem on the outside of the tranny, in the shift linkage. If you pull the left cover, after removing the gear selector, you may find the problem...

I'll do a search on it after I get it out... but I'm already building this other motor to just do a swap.

I also took an extra head to my machinist to have some porting work done and a 3 angle valve job. He's going to open up the intake ports a bit and even move the valve seat out towards the edge of the valve face some to get a little more air through. He's going to clean up the cast marks some, but will leave a bit to help atomize the fuel and prevent any air dams or pooling (He explained them to me but don't ask! lol)

I didn't mention my thoughts about it, but he saw the YICS ports on the head and asked about them. I told him they'd be capped off. He looked them over and said what I have always wondered about... "Man, those would make some great spots to put nitrous on!"

Don't think I'm not tempted! lol. I told him to take his time on the head since I'm going to run the stock one first. But I'll eventually have to slap it on and see if there's a difference.

Also... I can get them, but man those litle circlips for the pistons are a PITA! Anyone know a trick to them? Seems about every third try sends one shooting across the room.

I forced mine in with the open end directly across from the notch for removing them. I put the open end in first and used a small screw drive to lever them in using the notch as a place to get the leverage. They popped right in. I kept my finger over them so they went in instead of out.
