      New Seat

I just got the bike back from the seat guy. I think he did a great job! In keeping with the Warrior theme, it is solid around the base with a perforated seating surface. Check it out!

      My new seat.

Now I'm going to disassemble everything, paint the frame and body work and start the reassembly. Hopefully not too much longer until I can ride it!

The pan is fiberglass and fitted perfectly to the frame. The underside is covered with thick fuzzy material and he gave me a roll of velcro to stick on the frame (once I paint it).

I like this project. I will admit that I hate it when people hack up an XS to make it look like a hog, but your bike looks great so far, and patterning it after another Yamaha must be the difference.

The exhaust system will make or break your aesthetics as well. Can't wait to see it.

Thanks! I can't wait to see it either! I don't have anything against Harleys. They have their place. I think they dropped down a few notches on my cool meter when they became as expensive as some new cars. I used the rear fender from a sportster because it was cheap and fit between the stock frame rails. As for the exhaust, it will be my old Kerker 4-1 for now. Someday I'd like the Jardine 4-2 with turn-out mufflers. I think duals would fit the look of the bike better. How do they sound compared to the kerker?

i heard turn outs w/o baffles sounds like a hog, a loud hog, and 4 into ones blend the note to a higher pitch, sportsbike like, i had a mac 4 to 1 din't mide the sound but i wus too dumb to figure out the jetting, back to stock.

                  Just my 2 pics...errr cents

First PIC: straight 1-7/8 pipe, no cross-over, no baffels, kinda loud, still had that obvious 'not a HD' sound, but pretty good

Second PIC: stock muffs from a '07 Sof-Tail, quiet, but the more I ride the 'healthier' the sound

                  I remember seeing a set of 'Tail-Gunner' tips (JCW/DC/OBB)
I wonder how four custom pipes fitted with the afore mentioned tips would look?????????????????????????????

I started mine once with just the 4-into-1 header on it. It sounded MEAN! I would like to hear a good loud set of 4-into-2's. Anybody care to post a video to Youtube for me?

Great looking job ! Are those stock handle bars? I dunno', they kinda' remind me of WWII somehow. Have you given the bars' your scrutiny yet? If it's looks you're after, I would try something else (personal taste here), but I realize they have to fit you too. Something to stretch out the bike a little (lower the profile?). I think we're all trying to picture the finished bike, and man, you have our attention. Hey, you're really goin' for it! Kudos!!

Hey Gyro, yes those are the bars I chose. I originally bought the Superbike bars from MikesXS but they put me in too much of a hunched forward position. These are the Street Tracker bars and are pretty wide (34") and flat. I think they look cool and they feel good.

Clint, welcome to the boards! The tires are Avon Venoms. The rear is a 140/90/16 supposedly the widest you can put on a stock rim and swingarm. The front is stock sized 100/90/19.

This weekend I got the frame painted satin black. I also began painting the tank, fenders, and side covers. I spent two days priming and sanding (and repeating). Today I shot the base coat. The only catastrophe was the front fender. My dumbass brushed some lint off of it just before the second coat. The oil from my pinkie was enough for it to bubble up real nice in a few spots. I hate paints!!! They're so freakin easy to screw up. I've painted a few small things (tailgate, rollpan, mirrors) and it always seems something goes wrong. There must be a reason why professional painters use a nice sanitary paint booth instead of a garage! Oh well, at least it's just the base coat. What's scary is the clear coat. I'm hoping nothing goes wrong with that. The paint was the second most expessive part of this project at $245 so I can't afford to screw it up. Wish me luck!!!

                              Fizz on, Dude!

                              Hi Da-Bubble,
I don't get on with base/clear paint systems for the simple reason that I can't see the clear going on until it builds up a too-thick coat and then curtains on me. It's one less step & far less hassle for me to use a two-part truck paint, even a vision-challenged old fart can see that stuff going on.
Once inside mro's giant baggie you'd best be wearing a real good breathing mask, those fumes are incredibly bad for you.
