one muffler turn blue

why whoud one muffler turn blue on the right side <no. 3&4>
but not the left side <no. 1&2> bike had ben back firing so I had to ride it home with the choke on full to keep it from back firing when I got home it ran ok 1979 xs 1100

You got a muffler full of unburnt fuel, then got a spark into it......... I am sure you can work out the rest for yourselves!

Hole in muffler reduces back pressure causing a lean condition and that's what turns your pipe blue....

Hi Pete.

I'm not sure what side. I'll have a look tomorrow, it's pissing down at the moment but I'll bet it's the right side.

I'm going to check out sandblasters tomorrow and see how much it will cost to do up my four into ones. If it's not too expensive, I'll get them done and paint them up with nice red manifold paint. I got a can of brake caliper paint here but I don't think it's heat proof enough.

If I get them sandblasted and painted properly and they look good I might just leave them on.

It will be all together on Friday. I want to go to Wilmot on Saturday or Friday night if I get it all done. I want to have a few beers with my brother so if it's OK, I'll swing by your joint on the way. I know you have your daughter but I just want a couple of pixs done and let you take it for a blat.

I'll give you a ring Friday if I don't hear from you sooner.

paint pips

I painted my headers on my truck with veary hi temp paint and it jest burened off in two weeks powder coating them may stay on and last longer

Oddly enough that hole was on the left side.

Check to make sure you have good fuel flow to the side that is turning blue, Definitaly sounds lean. Open the float drains and put petcocks on prime to get a "flow" check.

Low float level can do it to one side or one pipe, but should color header starting from head....

BLUE JOB !

Hi ! Use Blue Job on the blued areas and the blue colour will dissapear ! I have used it myself,and it worked even better then I had expected. Great product and it will also polish all your chrome nice. However ,DO NOT use on aluminium surfaces!
