well what is under the right side cover? I thought that was the pick up coils, oh wait , that is probably alternator of sorts.

Hi guys,
Most manuals tell you in the intro that when they refer to "left or right" they will mean "as seen from the driving position". Most mechanics use the same description.
Devices which generate electricity are called generators. Electricity is commonly generated in one of two ways; As D.C. (direct current) by a dynamo, Or as A.C. (alternating current) by an alternator.
The XS11 has an alternating current generator; also known as an alternator....... both mean exactly the same thing......
