I have a 80 special and I want to change the exhaust on my bike. I like the look of a 4-1 but I hate that it goes under the bike. I want to build my own header that collects under the right side peg. I would have all of the primary tubes collect into a 2.5" collector. Then the 2.5" pipe would run alongthe side of the bike and dump out the side, I want something like the sidewinder exhaust on drag bikes. My question is that if i build this exhaust with a 2.5" pipe will it provide enough backpressure for the motor? And would it be loud(with no baffels)?

hi i would say 2.5" is way too big, most sports bikes run2" big pipes help max power but narrower pipes help torque.if you really want a big chunky pipe for looks,i would suggest a 1.5"pipe and a 2.5" cover,by that i mean weld another skin of larger pipe over the top helps the look and pipe wont be as loud/hot.also should give enough back pressure.as for baffles you can buy 6" custom baffles for customs/chops,if when its made its too loud try one of these shorten it 1/2" at a time to get the best balance between noise and smooth running. this is my opinion for what its worth...good luck with your projectmick
