"Rode a bike for the first time in 30 years!"

      Hi Paul,
and you chose an XJ1100 to do it on, too.
Please remember that in the last 30 years traffic density has doubled, the average driving skill has halved and older folks don't bounce as easy as they did when they were younger. Just you be careful out there.

        Fred,
Actually, the one time I rode a bike was a dirt bike. It was for a half hour or so. I'm planning to take a beginners riding class in a another month, then the intermediate at the start of the season next year. I hadn't bought a bike earlier because of the paranoia of the road. Intead of avoiding it, I replaced the paranoia with respect for the situation. Since I already broke my leg in 3 places jet-skiing, I hoping that I'll remember the pain

          Hi Paul,
how did you manage to do that? Drowning I can understand but broken bones? There's nothing out there but water.

Well, it was pretty easy. Here in the niagara river the water reacts a little funny cause in funnels down from lake erie just before it goes over the falls. The waves can be a little unpredictable. A freind and I were going out to the lake and he got quite a bit ahead of me cause I was screwing around and in no hurry. So When I seen how far he was I opened it up. Now there are some good size cruisers that typically never give a good swell to jump, but every once in a while they are a doozy! I got on top of it and knew I was in trouble. I couldn't tell you how high, but I hit hard and fast. It crushed me into the jet-ski, then threw me up in the air, I couldn't hold on and went up in the air. My buddy saw me up in the air and didn't know what in the hell I was doing up there! As the river rose I landed on it crushing me into it, breaking my leg and cracking a rib and threw me back off again. I came up from under the water and thought sure I was as good as dead. My chest hurt like hell, and the lef didn't feel quite right, but was still under water. My buddy came back, let me hang onto his jet-ski and swam over to get mine. If you ever had to get on a jetski from the water, you'll understand it ain't always the easiest thing to do. I beared down and gave it everything I had, cause I didn't want to try it twice. Once I was up, my lower leg looked pretty ugly. I rode it back to the dock being as gingerly as I could, but happy that I was at least back up and feeling less like I was going to die. The whole healing process wasn't much fun either.

              Ouch!

              Hi Paul,
that story makes me wince just reading about it. And bikes go twice the speed of jet skis and they are surrounded by pavement, not water. Let me amend my original post. Just you be VERY VERY careful out there.
