Question for GEEZER!!!!

Having a problem with charging I think it's the rectifier,

The Question is would a rectifier of a '78 XS750 (in labels it a "2D") work properly on a '80 XS11G (spec).

TopCat said you may know....

ALSO req'd you for a replacement????

Some of the early 750 triples had the field coil grounded on one end and the other lead goes to the reg/reg. With this system the regulator powers the field.

On the later 750, all 850 triples and all XS11 and XJ1100, the field coil gets power directly off the main hot lead and the regulator grounds the other lead to regulate the power.

The short answer is if the 750 reg/rec is a later one, it's the same as used on the 1100. I don't know when the cut off date was on this change but the parts looked alike.

The 'Rectifier & Regulator Assembly' from an XS750-2D is the same part as on your XS1100 G, it's part number 1T4-81960-92-00 and it's used on.....

Anybody interested in a good deal on one of my reg/reg units?

I have 4 units that I mis drilled some holes in the plate and I didn't catch it until final assembly. By this time the rectifier was already epoxied in and I the only choices were to fix'em or toss'em so I fixed them.

Other than 2 extra countersunk holes in the backing plate, they're fine. I'm selling them as blems for $34.50 off the regular price ($60 plus shipping.)

If it's a sentence, it's one I'm happy to have. Sue is the only woman I've ever known that likes mechanical stuff.

We'd take the trip up to Camp XS on the 70 standard but she finds it uncomfortable on long trips. I hate to say it but I think there is a wing in our future.

Since it would seem that the reg/rect will fit, it raises another question...........

I installed the rect from the 750 on the 11,
still nothing, what else could be wrong????

The next step is to check the resistance on the stator and field coils per the instructions in the manual.

had time to poke around a little more......

the stator (big coil) wasn't bolted to the cover, (MY fault)
have a little wear on the inside of the coil, and a little scratching on the one that is bolted to the crank

the question is: would that short out, both rectifiers

the most liklly problem is the conn. by the
fuse block just because it looks good doesn't mean it is . unplug it and look.

No but it sure wouldn't help the stator. Double check that the stator isn't shorted to ground.

the stator coil had continuity to the engine,

swiped the one from the 750, took the field coil too, still using the 750's rectifier

headlight came on as soon as the engine started,
the white wires felt a little warm @ rect
not hot, just a little warmer than the other ones

VOM reg over 12.5 volts @ 2500 rpm,

is that enuf'
