Broken Muffler

I have a set of HD Sportster mufflers welded to my 2 pipes. Today, the muffler on the right side actually split apart from the pipe about 2" away from the weld. Someone told me that is caused by too much motor vibration. Anyone heard of this? What and where do I look for? My bike does do a little series of backfire when engine braking.
I dont know what caused this to happen but I'm glad it happened today and not in 3 weeks when riding to Estes.

Did you use the rubber dampened mount at rear with an attached muffler hanger bracket?

Yes. The rubber is there.

Welding causes heat strain. Typically, the weld becomes stronger and weakens the surrounding metal. It is common for specials to break there anyway.

The Culprit has been found

Due to the stringent HD quality control, th split right on the factory weld. I couldnt see that very well until I had the pipes off the motor. I hust hope the other one stays together.
