Hard Saddle Bag Removal Modification Advice

I have a full dress 1980 XS1100 SG with the OEM fairing and hard saddlebags. I;d like to mage the bags removable, but in their OEM form, the directionals come off with the bag assemblies. Did anyone ever try to mod the OEM bags so they can be quickly removed from the bike without a full mechanical disassembly?

oem has a relocator bar and when the bags come off, the turn signals stay on the fender/ license, your setup does not sound oem

My bags had a bar that mounts by the license plate holder and extends about 10 inches each side of the fender, but the steel plate/frame for the bags bolts to the end of it, not the turn signals. My signals ran the lead wire down this bar and then the signals were located in the hole below where this bar lined up.

Wonder if it was installed wrong. Anyone got photos of the bags? I'd attach one of my own but lack the permissions to do so.

look for the right relocator bar and you can accomplish what you need, without hassling with the blinkers

OK folks. Need help locating a relocator bar for my 1980 XS1100SG tail lamps. I an tempted to modify my OEM bags (Vetter style that use 4 bolts to attach them to a hard steel plate) so I can quickly remove them from the plate when they aren't needed. The challenge is my configuration has the chrome crash guards that would remain once the bags are removed... (See above photo link)

Anyone ever make their own relocator bar or find a good aftermarket source for them?

Get a piece of 1/8 by1 strap about 12 inches long bend each end 90 degrees about 1-1/2 long, drill a hole in each end to fit turn signal stem, then drill 2 holes to fit license plate holes. Bolt behind license plate, mount turn signals, plug in wires, ready to go. Remove bags when needed.

Sounds simple enough. Will give that a try (once I fix an electrical problem that just showed up....grrrrr)
