i'm going straight for the carbs for this one.

maha drives wonderfully. starting the bike up after work, would just die, back fireing pops and hissing, got her going high rpm, anything diping around 3 grand would kill her.

hard to start, when she starts she goes for 5 seconed then dies, above 3.5 grand she'll stay running.

i dont know how to search other forums for this info. im going at the carbs. i'll look over electrical while im ditry, look for shorts or groundouts.

    any suggestions?

had 7" to 8" flames of fire out of my turnout mufflers(oval dia 5"), visually: ****ing cool. really: maha was screaming.

Sounds like idle circuit on your carbs
I think your guess would be right.

Is that with the enricher/starter circut pulled out (choke)

Does sound like a fuel/dirty carb problem.
Back fires sometimes pop off the caps on the carb boots.
At main forum page scroll down to the "Maintenance" section
      good info for cleaning/adjusting carbs

Is the inside of your tank rusty/dirty?
Do you have inline fuel filters and if so are they clean?
Dirty gas could cause an issue

While I'm always up for frolicking through the carburetors on a nice day, I'd still consider a portion of a can of seafoam before a big teardown. That stuff works wonders.

If you have rust in the tank, it wont help though.

                gonna have to drill, yuck

                first thing; i hate brass.

striped the air pilot jet (48.) on the number 2 carb, gonna have to drill it out.
ive drilled bolts that if i screw up i can tap. dont think i have the option to re-tap.
any recomendations other than, carefull? haha

no noticable clogs on the jets, any of them? i recant, one slowed down hole in a pilot jet (19.of carb 1), but not clogged.

did have an amout of black soot in the 2 and 3 (butterfly side) and on the bottom of diaphram cylider (lack of a word for the can under the diaphram).
obviously the back firing into the carb? maybe.

still to blow out carbs, but then my theory of a clog jet is out the window. what am i not looking at?

also what is the name of the black sealant around the diaphram, will need to purchase. or does the diaphram need a sealant?

You can use RTV Ultra Black, or plasti dip.

P.S. Use only to patch holes. Don't get carried away!

not looking to patch holes, just seal the gasket in its seat.
but at least there's multiple applications for the product.

The gasket? The diaphragm? No sealant is necessary for the diaphragm for the slide or any diaphragm for the vacuum control petcocks.
