This is not a very common mod...I have not heard of anybody doing this recently......

      Auto Reg/Rect

Think someone on these pages has mentioned an Audi unit and has a diagram of it on his web site.

Don't know who - but saw mention of it with a link when I searched through these 'new forum' pages recently for something else.

Also 'Chopper' seems to have carried out a fair few mods - not sure if he's wired in a car reg / rect - but worth checking all his posts as he mentions a few things here and there.

I have used a CB250N/400N (Superdream) part a few times (other bikes) as they are dead cheap and were common in the UK back in the early '80's - so common in the bike breakers here. Wiring isn't identical - but I've got a diagram somewhere which explains what to do.

Yep, that unit is in the Beast and has been since about 1997. I mounted it right where the old "reserve lighting unit" used to be. It is actually easier to just buy a used yamaha part from ebay, but that was not an option for me then. I have to say that the Beast has had a better charging system, the lights do not dim at idle, my turn signal blinkers do not slow too much at idle. It is better than stock in my opinion.
