  • 80or81 XS1100 SG/SH Hand Crank

I recently purchase the two above bikes and hope to make one runner out of them. How do I go about hand cranking the engine's over in that they no longer have the access to the crank mechanism?

    XS Hand Job

    Pull left round engine cover
Inside will find a square nut which you use to turn engine over.
Good or checking valve clearence, checking/setting pointer to TDC as well as adjust cam chain tensioner.

remove the left engine case cover and use an open end wrench to turn the crank in the direction of the arrow

First bike was an: 1978 XS1100
      Second bike is an FJR1300.
      Now I'm restoring a '79 XS1100.

        BTW

Check your serial number against post at left under "Specifications" then Serial Numbers.
Will identify which model you have.

You can always put bike on center stand , take spark plugs out & put bike in gear & just turn the rear tire. Or take cover off & turn with wrench , but remember take the plugs out or it`ll fight you all the way.
