There is a thread called "750 Final Drive enigma " that has a middle and final drive manual. It should help.

thanks
thanks for the link.but it doesn't help. the shaft he is talking about is inside the transmissin gears. we are replacing the 2nd gear, it was popping out, and i guesse the person b4 me held it in second gear and wore down the shift forks and whatever shaft they were touching. that is the shaft that needs replaced. he says because it is wore down about a 1/4" on both sides it moves and bike won't stay in gear. he mainly works on honda's but his sign said bikes 85' and older. i can give anybody his number and you can call him and he can tell you better. thanksa.d.c.

Hey Looser,
This Link is one of several with nice pictures that show how to remove the counter shaft WITHOUT splitting the cases or removing the engine from the frame, just have to remove the clutch over, clutch, gear shift cover, and 3 torx screws...they are locktited so make sure he has a good fitting bit!!
