    So trusting......

    My battery is getting bad, but I was trying to get it to make it to the end of the month. I was at work and it cranked a few times.. then clicked. I pushed it over to my work truck to jump start it, (No, the truck wasn't running) when a buddy came out and said "Let me help". So... long story short (Pun intended)... what happenes to the electronics when someone crosses the wires for you? Did it direct short the battery and finish killing it... or did I fry the TCI? I'll check the battery voltage... I am hoping it just shorted it out somehow. Wishfull thinking?

    I will check more on it tonight.. I got it trailered home at lunch. None of the fuses are blown. Even with the battery hooked up to it right, I get absolutely nothing when I turn the key. I feel stupid that I trusted someone to not screw something that simple up, when the consequences can be so great.

    Did ya check the 30 amp main fuse under the LEFT cover? When it goes, you stop.
    When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

      I don't have any fuses under my left cover... a little bit different setup I guess.

        I have done this before(yes I a dumb) but all it did was blow a fuse. Have you tried to start it yet with jumpers(hooked up correctly) You(he) may have just cut that batteries last leg off.
        I would try and jump it since you say none of the fuses are bad.

          Even with the battery hooked up to it right, I get absolutely nothing when I turn the key.
          That's what I was saying here. We tried hooking it up right and jump it... and nothing.

            Then double check your fuses if you haven't, use an ohm meter to make sure. If they are good .. then I don't know what to tell ya. Haven't had to look past the fuses. I sometimes when jumping would get nothing cause where I connected the black lead to the frame it wasnt a good spot. No ground. Did you hook the cables up to the battery(in the bike) or straight to the leads for the battery in the bike?

              I just went and checked the battery and all the fuses. There's 11.8 volts in the battery and all the fuses check out good. I opened up the TCI and none of the soldered points look burnt or had gotten hot, but I didn't pull the card out to look at the other side of it. I don't see a 30 amp fuse anywhere on this bike... am I missing it somewhere? The biggest one I see is a 20 amp.

              When I tried jumping it, I had the negative cable on the kickstarter shaft and the pos on the battery.

                I am gonna sound like an a-- hole no matter how I ask this but are both the key and kill switch in the right positon.
                Does your tail light come on when the key is turned on. I don' t know, I am just writing what I would be doing/checking

                  Did you notice a burnt rubber/plastic smell around the fuse block?

                  And how long was it hooked up wrong?

                    uNDER YOUR SEAT THERE IS A RED LARGER WIRE IT HAS THE MAIN FUSE IN IT, JUST BEHIND THE BATTERY FOLLOW THE LARGE RED WIRE AND YOU SHOULD FIND IT GOOD LUCK

                        Yeah... after I posted, I got my book out and started looking for it. It just looks like another electrical box or compnent. The main fuse was blown. I will run to town and see if I can find a replacement. This one looks a little more involved to transfer over to a buss fuse. It looks shorter than a regular glass car fuse... hope I can find one.

                          That one has gotten MANY riders....You can buy an inline spade-type fuse holder at the auto parts store...but I transferred mine into the (new) fuse box.

                            I went to the auto store and got another one... came home and went to install it and saw another fuse in there. I was thinking "Oh crap, I only bought one". Then I saw it was just a spare I guess they put there from the factory? Wasted trip, but at least I know there's a spare there.
