  • Center Stand Spring

I took the center stand off of my 1982 xj1100 and re-painted it with POR15 rust preventitive paint. everything worked out out fine but now i am trying to put it back on and i cant stretch the spring out enough to hook it to the teo hook up points. anyone know a trick that works for getting this to work? i can really get a screw driver or anything in the area....let me know if you can think of anything. thanks. -Joe

Hook the spring first then install the bolts. Better leverage that way

Insert lots of washers in the spring coils...making it longer and longer until it is the length you need to install.

      Easy, no fuss.

I think I used a pair of channel locks and just pulled it. or maybe it was vice grips?

Last time I did it I used a brake tool to pull the spring over the stud on the frame. You know, the old kind of tool that was used with drum brakes.
