If it makes you feel better I am no pro either. There are a few here though.
It sounds like your main jets are good, Check the WOT again and if it is good after 4k you may want to look into going up one size for your pilot jet. But that is only if your runnin lean in the lower Rpm range. I have saved a jetting guide in my favorites and it has helped me so I am going to post it again

JAT remember turning idle mix screws in leans, turning out richens.
So when doing your sync, you may want to start with them 1 turn out from fully seated. then that should give you some adjustment room. when doing the sync just get the oil levels even, dont worry about the RPMs.
I am sure you already know all this, but just trying to cover the basics

It helps to go over and over this stuff !!
Its killing me to be at work (12 hour shift) . Will have time wed/thurs to try the new thoughts out ....

So , if the idle mixture screws are not closly adjusted, will that cause it to not sync accuratly ??? . Must have an effect on vacuum if the idles screws are all over the map ?

I'm going to reread the jet mods again now !!

      Thanks

OK... OK.... now I am confusing myself.
For some reason I was thinking you use the idle mix screws while doing the sync.
The great TC told me how you can use the "hearing" method to check the idle mix screws. while the bike is idling(after doing a proper sync) adjust the idle mix screw out until you hear the RPMs increase, than adjust it back down until you find "the sweet spot" . Do this for all four carbs, than resync. I hope if you do this it will help. I am in a little different boat, I have two carbs that have the idle mix screw inlet drilled so that adds another factor to the equation. Right now my bike is good from 3k to 9k, but is a little hesistant from idle too 3. But it idles smooth around 900.
I know I have a rich problem from the look of the carbs but haven't gotten around to it (again) to do some tinkering.
When you start the bike do you use the choke/enricher lever?
I can only use mine slighty after starting to keep it idling, but if full on while trying to start , it wont start.

If the idle screws are off quite a bit and you do a sync I believe it will cause the sync to be off, atleast your butterfly plates wont be in the same postion.
It is reminding me of the "chicken or the egg" question
Maybe some one will chime in and let us know which we should do first.
I am guessing set the idle mix screws to stock 1 1/2 turns out, then do a sync, then do the idle mix adjust(hearing test) if needed then resync.

            Yup ,
I'll have the mix screws 1 1/2 turns out no matter what ...
            Then sync ....
The propane trick sounded interresting , plus color tune .and the
            by ear / tach .

I'll do the by ear one ./ And see what happens with propane after just out of curiousity ....

On my enrichener its about 60deg f outside air temp . I have to use the enrichener/choke ....Full then taper it off till its warm .
Does not take long , but it works great ....I cheat a little and after a bit , use the throttle to keep it going ....

Yes , there is a lot of talent here !!

What are your floats set too??

            Cant wait till tommorrow ....
