Q: Unknowingly cracking a mount completely off an XS11 carb holder and then riding the bike will result in the XS ___________.

    Bonus question and tie breaker:

    Q. Running your father's completely rebuilt, beautiful and well running 1978 Honda CB400T out of oil and seizing the engine, and then asking to use your father's beloved 1975 Honda CB750K for a Spring Break night on the town will result in what answer:

    (a) Of course, son. Stuff happens.

    (b) Are your out of your freaking mind?

    (c) Get thee behind me Satan.

    (d) Who are you and what have you done with my child?

    (e) (Blank, disbelieving mute stare).

Contest winner gets to say he won.

First Q...I believe the correct answer is it will be lean, big time, and it will run like crap.
Second Q...E is the only answer that appies after using the process of elimination.

Did replacing the boots take care of the problem that you've been having? Does that mean that you can make the rally now?

The correct answer is E. Especially when coupled with the fact that I spent two hours last night replacing the headlight bucket that he broke when he dropped the bike a couple days ago. I didn't get mad at that. He's a novice rider and stuff does happen. Running out of oil because you haven't checked it in weeks is another thing entirely. I completely rebuilt that engine. New bearings, seals, rings etc. It was a first pop starter and a very quick little buzzbomb.

I have another low mileage engine in a parts bike, but that's going to kill a weekend day.

As for the XS, I mounted the new carb holders tonight after work and hauling my 400 home in the back of my truck. I'm tired . I won't know for sure until tomorrow night whether this solves my remaining problems. This, however, sends the jury back out for further deliberations when it comes to Saturday. I still haven't done a good thorough shakedown ride, but I would like very much to come.

Um, you mean like a carb fell off?
It'd still run on 3, right? Won't damage anything but the performance will suck.

                  Tie-breaker?
                  F. of course you may. In fact it's yours to keep. About the new Beemer I was getting for your grad gift, I'll be keeping it for myself.

i think it is a hypothetical question, i think if there was and event that would snap it off the whole bank of carbs woulf go and you wouldn't run,
but to be a good sport and play along, and asssuming the plumbing is for a stock standard, i think the offending cylinder may siphon enough air to render a petcock closed and that pair of carbs will not run and you will be on 2 cylinders,
