    Since it's his first XS it would probably be a good idea to get a copy of Clymer and go through the maintenance chapter. When I got my XS it had a sticky throttle. I used their "difficult" method with motor oil and it worked perfectly. Plus I used materials that were lying around and didn't have to spend any extra money.

      I wonder if the PO of his bike had done the clutch upgrade( adding a steel plate) I read somewhere on here that it can make the clutch harder to pull?

          It honestly feels like the springs are where the resistance is coming from. I'm routing the cable so that it's not as bound, but it wasn't really moving that restricted when I disconnected it from the clutch. The tension is from within the case. I rode it a bit yesterday and it wasn't horrible, but a 30 minute ride or longer in traffic would be pretty taxing.
