    Usually they only go in one way. Which way depends on the rotation of the disc, and which way the caliper pivots/slides.

    If they have been working fine, then you must have them in correctly. I think it's really tough to get one in backwards.

      Well, I dont kno nuttin!

      But, here is something I have found through experience with my special. Every time you remove the calipers on a Special, check the long bolt for straightness. Everything installed correctly, it is possible for the bolt to get a slight bend as the caliper and pads settle into their braking position on the rotor. If you remove the bolt, it is nearly impossible to get it back in the same position and braking power will diminish. So, every time I remove my calipers I replace the bolts. They are readily available at any hardware store for less than a buck apiece.
