    Cody,
Do you need one, or do you want a "new" one?

            Cody,

If you can use a standard M/C, I have an NOS cover and bowl. PM me.

I'm not sure if the standards are the same size.

I went to add brake fluid yesterday and the #%&$ screw twisted off. Had to drill it out and use and screw remover.

When I drilled it I got into the countersink area of the cover where the screw seat.

It still seals up but I'm afraid the metal may be so thin it might pull through over time and I don't need that on one of those 5000 mile road trips.

Let's check around and see if a standard will work on my XJ M/C. If not I'm sure I can find a aftermarket replacement somewhere.

                Cody:

Bike Bandit lists the cover for the XJ front master cylinder. Their P/N is 48197-001 and it's listed for $13.28. No way to tell if they have stock.

IS there a place to get complete reservoirs? Mine are starting to "warp" out and they look "cracked"

I just today reconditioned a reservior from my Special. I clamped it in a vise, with cloth on the jaws, then took a file and started on the sides. The crumbly, flaky stuff came right off. The opaque, white plastic came back somewhat. I then sanded it with some 320 emory cloth, and it looks great. The depressions on the side for checking the fluid level, was kinda hard. I used a small pocket screwdriver, and scraped what I could from the depression, and started working a piece of sandpaper down in there. Sanding removed the lettering, but after much patience, it looks very good. I have a source for new O rings that seal the reservior to the master cylinder casting, so I replaced that also.

                        eBay bargain ?

Just found this, badly described, but Nissin made the original ones. Starting at $50, may fit a standard. The top looks like it would fit a special.

If you are especially desperate it may be worth a bid

Check out this thread on replacement reservoirs from a while back. Randy was managed to track down a supply of replacement units, and I bought up the remaining units from hin that he was not able to move. I've still got four of these units available to fit the front master cylinder on a standard only, not a special.

Read through to the end of the thread for a price, then PM me if you're interested.

I really don't need to replace the M/C. It's in perfect shape. Just the cover. That's what I slightly damaged during screw removal.

I was hoping to find a third party replcement cover...like I've seen for other bikes.

Just bought a new front master cylinder cover from www.motogrid.com it was approx 12.50 brand new. It however does not have the same look as the original MC cover as it does not have the raised yamaha letters. it is oem yamaha cover that appears fits other bikes as well as the XJ but it does have a nice look. It has a smooth top with recessed yamaha letters in center and english and japanese writing on it.
