  • ported head/photos Merged!

hey guys im new to this site and to bikes but have been into cars for a long while and been into porting heads for around 12 years. i ported a xs head for fun just to see what it would come out like it seems it came out nice as far as port designs are concerned. i applied the same principals to it as i would a car head. anybody interested in some work let me know i pretty reasonable campared to other shops. i have done all makes and models from briggs to 800+ cu pro stock heads. i also have an xs with 15,000 miles that i bought for 200 bucks that i am slowly building to learn a little about bikes. i really enjoy your site for the awesome research you guys have done. how different is the fj1200 head from an xs? is it still an 8 valve head? do the cams have a better profile?

Welcome to this fine board. Did you put the head on a flow bench? What kind of improvement did you see? How did the stock head look, I've never removed my Xs1100 head?
    Cheers, 50gary

      ported head

yeah i have lots of pics i just need to learn how to put on this thread page. i never had on bench to see what actual numbers are. but i will say anybody that knows anything about heads knows its done nice. i tried selling on ebay but nobody would buy. the ports are designed pretty well the exhaust needed improvement as i welded the floors on them and ported. came out nice. well if i can get these pics on you will see.
      thanks, max

        head work

Yes, I would also be interested in the pics, maybe even send you a spare head to work on. Was your xs head from an '80 0r '81?

          ported head

it was an 80. when it comes to porting usually it surpasses the original design depending on the application. i can send you some pics thru email if you like. i just cant seem to get the time to figure out how to get on thread page. i know you have to upload them or something, i dont know i will get to it sooner or later.

                          run it?

have you ran it yet? and do you believe the valves should be polished?

stock intake port and welded ex port

no i am new to the bike field so i wanted to get my bike running stock and see if i could even get it tuned good. if i could i thought i would try this with a big bore kit. usually it is not necassary to polish valves not a big concern with airflow.
