Strange Diagram

Pulled the side cover from my 78 E today and noticed two diagrams in there. One was covering the petcock hose route but the other had me stumped. The writing has worn off a bit so couldn't read it all.


Something about wire.

Had a diagram showing the bike from the back showing a wire going from the hook on the right of the swingarm by the axle, up through the two hooks under the seat and back down to the bottom of the left hand shock.


Anyone enlighten me as to the purpose of this wire and the missing writing on the diagram?????

Apparently, there is some class of cable device to suspend the rear suspension when changing the tire(tyre).
This allows the axle to clear the exhaust during removal. My understanding is that this only necessary on the STD model. My guess is that it is attached while the suspension is compressed, and then the center stand is deployed.

thats correct
there is a cable and a pry bar
you connect the cable , use the pry bar to lift the rear axle to clear the exhaust
only on standards

Damn, now that makes perfect sense.

Yes a standard, but not required with my 4 into 1 clearing the pipes anyway.

Here's my brain looking at the diagram thinking this is some sort of lowering device for the drags.

And, it was only necessary/handy on the early standards with the longer mufflers that went past the axle. On later standards like Tsunami , the mufflers are shorter so they end before the axle.

I have the cable device. It is supposed to be stored in the onboard tool box? Just wondering. And yes to reconfirm, that is the diagram.

There is, or is supposed to be, a box like compartment inside the left side cover for storage. I think that label is on the outside of it.

yeah, Ive got my tools in there but is the cable supposed to go with it. It is a tight fit

I got the cable with the Pathfinder and when the rear went flat I discovered how nice it really is since I still have the stock pipes. Works really cool.

I just put a stock exhaust back on my 79F. Does anybody have a cable they want to sell? I don't think I will be bringing the 2x4s, that I have my rear tire propped up with, on any road trips. Thanks, PN.
