hi everyone, are the midnight specials rare maybe worth a little more?also is the 850 a triple

  • #2
The 850 is a triple. There wasn't many midnight specials made, so yes they are more rare. I used to want one but parts are harder to find.
79 F full cruiser, stainless brake lines, spade fuses, Accel coils, modded air box w/larger velocity stacks, 750 FD.
    79 SF parts bike.

Just finished restoring one. Most of the parts unique to the midnight can be refinished like the gold plating, and black powdercoating. Finding emblems could be a problem. And I do usually see them go for a little more.

A little black and gold paint, and yours could look just as cool.

Someone said here once that every dealership got one midnight a year. Dunno if thats true. I don't think any other bike screams 80's quite as loud. If you had one, you almost need a 80 Trans Am and a mullet too Wrenching on that bike and blairing hair metal put me in a whole different world. I loved it.

Pat, zat the same bike I saw here last Sept? Looks like you got stock pipes in the pic. Tim hasn't said so, but I think between you and I, we motivated him to spend the money and clean his up. The seat was done by Sargent, by the way. And happy to see so many midnights on the forum.

Someone told me Bob Jones (XS11 Heaven) takes credit for the Midnight Special when photos of his "Yellow Jacket" 78 XS1100 got back to Yamaha.
                              This is rumor only.
