    tjfisher30,
Yes, read the "Tech Tip" from the main page, Transmission, 2nd gear fix.
The job sounds like a lot, but can be done without pulling the engine or splitting cases. I did mine, first time, in two days. I also drained everything and had the bike upside down on a low stand. That DID make it easy to work on.
Plan on doing a dremmel fix on first and second gear, just to be safe.

yeah mine does that too, not when i haul butt, so i just pop it in and move on,
i might be a lame rider, cause, almost everytime i ride i get a false 4 to 5 false neutral and i can never get it back in up or down without grinding the bejesus outof it

to me this is a worse offender that crusing gingerly in second and it slipping out, but i'm sure she wouldn't like it tho.
      any more comments on this?

Your false neutral problem sounds more like it might be from a weak or broken shifter return spring, or mis-alignment in the shifter assembly. Have a look at this thread to see if this might be your problem.

i had the darn thing out a few time trying to stop the neutral switch's leak and the alignment and spring appears quite good, i think i don't pay enough attention when shifting and half fast shifting that causes the falses, not diliberate enough as i read elsewhere here...thanks, any rationlization not to do mechanical work, i just wanna ride damnit.
