Me too! Mine is fully dressed. It's all about mpg and lower revs. When Zilla hits about 115 or 120 mph ...the lift from the Vetter makes him pretty scarey.

I hit 120 and she was still pulling away in 5th!

      • If I didn't have this "air foil" installed (Vetter fairing) I would be at all surprised if Zilla could nail 140+.

After we installed the 750 drive...with the new trick motor...we rolled the fire breathing beast up on the Dyno. At redline it was spinning the drum at a calculated speed of 145 mph!

sweet. at 120 mph if I'm not tucked in like the crotch rocket guys, it feels like my helmet wants to vacate the premises....but with the new mod she still pulls at this speed in 5th....

          • I finally got around to doing Chop's FD swap and what a difference! This is the gearing that this bike was meant to have. I do a 150 mile per day commute from Prescott Valley to Phoenix and the ride is so much more comfortable now. Cruising at 80 is a breeze. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything at the stoplights either. I'ld kinda like to make the old transmission last as long as I can before I need to rebuild it so I don't hammer it too hard. I had it on the dyno at school the other day to try to sort out the jetting issues with the 1980 "bastard" carbs and although it only pulled 82 hp it registered 130 mph at redline in fourth gear. I haven't come close to that on the road, mainly because of the marginal rubber, lack of a fork brace, an a burning desire to live to see my son graduate from college. I also don't want the rickety old stock fairing disintegrating right in front of my face.
Anyway, thanks Chop for coming up with the idea and thanks also to Maximan for the pics and descriptions.
If it aint broke....it aint mine!:(

            • Here here...applause for the CHOP MAN! I was simply the messenger boy.

I for one am so utterly please with this mod I can't even articulate it. You are right chopwatchagot. This is the gearing the Eleven needs in most all situations except maybe drag racing.

I've noticed even on tight twisty roads the mod does fine. Instead of going through hairpins in one gear I just drop it a notch. Cool indeed.

All 750 drives have the same part number (1J7-46101-N0-00) and as far as I know are identical. I wouldn't worry about it.

As a matter of fact I believe John dropped a 850 final drive in his and got the same results I did. So I am certain even the XS850 has a 2.91 : 1 drive ratio as well.

                          • I did use an FD from an 850 SG. It was the same 1J7YO P/N as the 750 FD.

                              Hey Max, and others,

When you send a PM, there is a box that is at the bottom of the compose window, and ALL 4 of the radio buttons are defaulted to ON! One of them is send a COPY to your SEND folder! Unless you really need to keep track, then uncheck that button, and you won't fill up your mailbox so fast. You are alloted 100 messages to store. But, folks don't always realize they need to go into their SENT folder to remove those COPIES, and your mail box will hold quite a few more messages! Check it out, I'll bet most of you will find 25 or more messages in your SENT folder!?
