I have installed some after market turn signal and my lights just stay on. I have heard about adding a resistor in parallel to the circuits and was wondering what value should I use. I was going to buy a bunch of different values and experiment but figured I would ask first. Thanks fellas and enjoy the Avatar, what a hottie!

U dont need to add anything
just replace ur flasher relay with an electronic one,
u can pick them up at any auto place cheap enuff
use the 2 pronged relay.
The only thing is that the blinkers wont cut out automatically.
I only did mine the other day.

L.E.D.s?
you installed l.e.d.s correct? If so you need a true electronic flasher I tried a few and the best (true digital electronic) is K&S # 24-0005. DON'T put resistors on those leds. they get very hot and you defeat the purpose of the l.e.d.s to draw low current....chopMDRNF

Probably a stupid question.. but are you sure it's wired right? One side WILL stay on as a running light, but the bulb should have 2 filaments.. it will burn brighter when flashing. If you wired the wrong side, the brighter one will remain lit, while the dimmer one would try to blink.. and probably not see it.
Or.. are you saying that you hit the turn signal, it comes on bright, but doesn't flash? If that's the case, another flasher is all you need.

I bought some of the same lights. They have incandescent bulbs but they are low amp. The bulb number is 97. They will not flash with a stock flasher.
So I chucked 'em and bought some lights with 1157 bulbs. Works perfect now.

I think Chop has the answer. The 240005 he speaks of will flash anything. I think the specs on it have an amp range from 20 to .1

Now that's my idea of a bad A$$ ride

btw
if your oem flasher/self canceling units are good. Will work if used with 1157 bulbs in front and 1156 in rear. (bad/corroded connections/grounds can keep em from flashing too)

Great pics all over this site.
Thanks for the replies fellas, I dont know the wattage on these bulbs. I think I am going to go with a different style to get running lights.
I got another problem though. I dont know if the PO added this or not but sitting on top of my TCI box was another smaller black box with some wires coming from the wire bundle spliced through it. The two extra leads that it created acted as turn signals. One had 12 volts when activated turn signal switch left, Lost when deactivated. The other had 12 V when activated turn signal swith right lost when deactivated. So I figured the PO added this to give him extra lighting for signals. So I connect everything, Brake light works normally running light when not braking and bright when braking. Heres the problem When I hit the turn signal switch left, the brake filament and running filament(in the brake light) alternate with the turn signal. The actual filaments alternate. when flasher on, brake light lights and running light out, and Vice versa. Flasher off brake light off, running light on. Wierdest sh_t I ever saw. Get this it does not do it when right signal activated. HUH ANy body got any ideas. obviously its wiring. Any one seen one of these smaller black boxes before?Last edited by audijunky; 10-24-2006, 06:50 AM."Beware of any man that owns a pig farm"

Hey Steve,
That little black box sounds like the PO went and got some sort of trailer adapter lighting box for cars and wired it in somehow! I had to get one for my SUV, it converted my separate turn and brake lights into 1 circuit for my single brake/turn signal lights on my trailer! It probably isn't needed, and you should be able to remove it and clean up the wiring to your brake and turn signals.

The crazy thing is I pulled the TCI and the other box off the fender and out where I could trouble shoot and get a good look at the wires and now it acts normal. So I double checked everything a put it back together and it works fine. I dont know, I guess I had a short somewhere? Thanks for the reply TC"Beware of any man that owns a pig farm"

I went through every plug I could find and used a brass detail brush on the contacts then some di-electric grease and replugged. The overall difference in the bike was quite noticable. The contacts get oxidized after 20 years or so and increase the resistance. Even if you don't get an actual short, your voltage is diminished.JimBoReeno
