Master cylinder

Hi y'all. My master cylinder is shot. I'm keeping an eye on a couple on EvilBay, but I wanted to see, before I bid, which ones would work. Will the master from an XS650 or XS750 work both calipers adequately? Or do I need to hold out for an XS850 or 1100 or an XJ1100, which came with dual disc systems, to make sure I can push adequate brake fluid?

Ideas, anyone?

Mikes XS has the kits for the front. PN08-0204.
Unless the bore is shot out, no big deal to rebuild.

You want a MC for dual disks. The single disk unit will be harder to operate, and the handle will probably go almost to the grip. I got a brand new one from one of the online store, just can't remember the name...

The bore on my MC is shot. The piston was corroded in and by the time I got it out the walls were scored. I rebuilt it, but it spews brake fluid all over everything when you squeeze the handle.

Both PNM and MIKESXS carries the 16mm bore dual disc type front MC, around $79.00 IIRC, standard hose fittings, and since you have the Standard, not any concern with the angle that the reservoir will be sitting at...the specials with the pull back bars have the reservoir more angled! I think it even has the mirror mount/hole!

The plastic reservoir on my front master cylinder fell apart when i was bleeding the front brakes. I was able to get one off of either a Yamaha Fazer or Radian for about $45 bucks . It had n=been taken offa wrecked bike and completely drained by the sdalvage yard. It hasa lower profile resevoir than the old stock and works just fine. I was told that the piston diameter had to be the correct size for a twin disc set up. And if so just about any Yamaa cylindershould work. They are located in Delaware, Ohio. (740) 362-5595 They specialize in newer bikes that ours but were very helpful in finding one that fit my 78E

Thanks, everyone. I am going to have to look at one of those new masters after the credit card statement closes and I have new money again, T.C. That really looks like the way to go.

The engine makes it go, but that really doesn't compare with the ability to stop. It's really rare that a fast takeoff will save your life, but consistent stopping will do that every time.
