  • Need a frame measurement.

    Hi guys,

I'm working on a restore on my XS. Got nearly the whole bike parted out.

I always found that the rear seat and rear fender seems to be low, sagging down a bit.

What is the distance from the last collar from the frame to the centre of the swing arm axle ??

I think my frame took some pounding. Between 45 and 55 mph cruising the bike handles funny, not in an easy straight line. This can also be caused by my rear tire and maybe shot bearings on the stearing, but while I have the bike stripped I also doing some check ups on the frame. Side Q are the frames on the special allso the same to the frames on the standards ??

Well, here's a pic before I started parting out.

In the photo you can actually see my frame coming a bit down at the end. marked out by the yellow line.

The two frame rails under the seat should be straight from where they mount to the main frame at the tank mount all the way back to the rear fender mount.

            Thanx Dennyz

Allthough as seen in the pic. the bars are straight except they are pointing down. I can't see any deformation or bending of the tubes while having a bare frame. Ships, what is going on here. Shorter springs. Anyone with a spring length measurement ??

here is a spring size, again this is a standard

              also a bare frame
with a level laying on it

                Thanks XS Willy.

Measured the spring, it was at 7.8 inch.
Total shock was at 12.5 (centre Eyes)

Put a Level on the frame and at the rear mounting struds it is like 1"down. So now find the exact locatio where the frame is bent.
I do have a alternative on a frame allthough it is from an E not an SF model. Are the frames the same, meaning is the angle on the front collar, the frame mounts etc.. the same.

I have to dig into this one. Thanks for the nice pics XSwilly. You already put me one step ahead. Or is it backwards in this case.
