  • Gas Cap Gasket

I just bought a 1980 XS1100G with low mileage. The bike is in great shape except the flip type gas cap does not seal well. I am getting gas fumes in my garage. The previous owner said the gaskets were no longer available. An suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Check out the plumbing section at your local hardware store. Take the old gasket along with you and match it against the various sink drain rubber seals.

I bought two from Mikes XS. The 650 cap gasket fits both my standard and special.

        Are ya Sure?

Are you sure the fumes are coming from the tank cap? Just for check the bottom of the air box. There's a small hole in the center. If you find any wettness its fuel from the carbs.

          Hey John,

Take a look at this thread , it shows the MikesXS gasket and how it fits the cap!

But like Wingnut said, you'l want to check to make sure it's not from leaking carbs and a wet airbox!

            Gas Cap Gasket

Apparently, MikesXS is out of the gas cap gasket that fits the 1980 XS1100G. It is their part number 20-0036 and they do not know when they will get any in.

They only have the 20-0038 which is for the 74-75 XS650. I order two, but they would not work.

I have been unable to find a gasket. I have been using an "O" ring which seems to work.

            Any suggestions?

              Mike's XS

Mike's XS is out of a lot of stuff right now. As much new stuff as he's coming out with for the XS650, I expect he's working to get resupplied. In the meantime call 650 Central. They've got most of the same goodies. www.650central.com

                Hey Marty,

I just visited that site, and I can't find any gas gap seals at all!

XSZGrider, I first used a large NEOPRENE washer I got from my local hardware store, just cut it to fit the gas cap, the glue I used wasn't very good, but the rubber made a good seal anyways!

                  Gas Cap Gasket

                  Hi Marty,
Thanks for the information. 650 Central had the gaskets in stock, so I order 2. They were only $4.00 each.
                  Thanks again,

Where did you find the cap gasket/seal on 650central? Gas fumes very noticable in the garage! Checked Mike's, still out of stock

                          Gas Cap Gasket

I called them also. You have to leave a message and he will call you back. It was several hours later, but they did, and they were very helpful. I have already received my gaskets!!
