I have a'79 xs1100 special and looking for a king and queen seat. I have been looking at a seat for a '80 xs1100, but not sure if it would fit on mine. Does anyone have any knowledge about these seats? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

78/79 have TCI mounted on rear fender, 80/81 under seat.
While 78/79 won't fit the 80/81 have not tried other way around.
Will be going to my shop soon and will check if an 80 seat will go on a 79.
Sure that someone will probably let you know before I get back.

Hey MRO,
The 78E has the TCI in the rear fender skirt section, but the 79SF has it under the seat on the front leading edge of the inner plastic fender! The later SG seat has a different profile, more of a dip in the middle, so it might contact your side panels, it's not flat across the bottom like the 79SF OEM seat!
Otherwise, Techmgnt, you should be able to make it fit, in case you do WIN the Ebay auction!

Thanks for the info. I did win the seat on ebay, so we will see how good it will fit. By the way, what does TCI stand for. I am still learning about my bike, so any info is deeply appreciated. Thanks again for your guys help.

Hey Tech,
What we have is a TCI, the black box that controls the ignition system, we do NOT have a CDI!! And so you will not want to get any aftermarket coils that are for CDI's, or you will BURN OUT your TCI!!
For a great learning experience, would highly recommend you go to the MAIN FORUM PAGE, scroll down to the TECH TIPS, and READ, READ, READ!!! You'll be amazed at the info you find!

CDI
Hi Techmgnt,
Whyncha post sooner? I have a K/Q/Hi-Rise seat off my XS11SG and I can't even give the ugly thing away.
To expand T.C.'s post,
TCI = Transistor Controlled Ignition.
while
CDI = Capacitor Discharge Ignition.
As has been said, totally different creatures.
