  • cant get xj1100 to 850k rpm

    stock XJ 13000 miles
I can't even get it to 850k rpm

just looses too much power, chokes to death or something, maybe leans out too much.. dunno

example: third gear on freeway WOT, gets up to about 75+- mph and 800 +- rpm and goes no faster or rev higher

I have read everything about performance on this sight I think
I'll be slowly improving this machine with kerkers, airbox drillin' etc.

    Adjust your cam chain tensioner.
And sort your RPMs... 850k... even jets dont do that.
    8.5k, 8500, ....something.
The engine should pull stock well into the redline.
Unless you broke or bent a valve or something. Check compression, sync the carbs, adjust ignition timing,...

If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

      Hey Strom,

Take it easy on the guy, he just got his bike back from being STOLEN! The "Theft", may have overrevved it and possibly bent a valve or two?? Have you done a compression test since you got it back? The XJ's TCI does not have a rev limiter, so it should run well past 8.5 K rpm! Check your vacuum lines, especially going to the little vacuum sensor under the tank!

Switch the petcocks to PRIME, and try it to see if it still fades. If NOT, then it's a fuel supply problem, the Octy may not be functioning properly, again, the vacuum hoses going to it!
      Good Luck!

I don't believe I wanna be sitting on ANYTHING spinning that fast!

Post... when's the last time you checked/cleaned/changed your air filter? Mine would do the same thing with those PNM air filters... it just couldn't breath at those higher rpm's. Just another suggestion.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!
