  • Dressing Clutch Plates

I have the clutch out of my 1179 hop up engine and can see that the steel plates are not burnt but are rather smooth to the touch. Is this normal. i see the embossed "dots" on them but they still feel rather smooth.
Same thing for the fiber plates. They are rather smooth. Should they not feel something like brake pads? If I am not mistaken the fiber plates can be "dressed" by giving them a light sanding to rough up the surface. What grit of paper should i use? Same for steel plates .. Can they be "dressed" and if so what grit of paper should be used to give them some added tooth?

They should be sanded up a bit. Go to the tip-maintanance, and check out the cluth refurbish thread.

Thanks for the link. I didn't think to check in the engine section of the maintenance threads

I've sanded clutch plates before with ZERO luck. I have however had good luck replacing springs.

But the best solution I found to a slipping clutch is two words?

              Barnett Clutches

Then click dealer for your state. You'll have to order through a dealer.
