    if it heads east

    Posthuman,

I'm sorry to hear of your loss! If it heads east into the spokane/Coeur d' Alene area I'll keep my eyes open. I commute every day so I'm always looking for XJ's and Xs's.

Give us some cosmetics to look for. color, extras etc.

hope it doesnt get parted out.

Sorry bout that. I have had things stolen before, but not like that. All I can say is check ebay for bikes with no titles or look for parts. Who would do something like this? They obviously don't know what they are getting in to if they stole an old 1100 yamaha.

Good grief that SUCKS. I don't know what the heck I would do if I lost my bike. I spent 30 days of evening and weekends doing the restore and pumped WAY too much cash into it that I will never recover. I hope you find it and find it in the same condition it was in when it disappeared. Keep an eye on e-Bay for YOUR parts.

              bike found

found six blocks away hidden in the back of some apartments, small scrape like they swiped a car, drilked out ignition, all else ok.

hmm.. some slight damage after all, the back tire rubs slightly on the driveshaft now, maybe they hit a curb... but i cant see any obvious damage, is there an alignment screw someplace on this bike?

Tire over infated? It is good to hear that you got your bike back. How did you/police find it? Did they drive it at all?

They drove it a bit, looks like they clipped a car with the rear blinker light, might have hit a curb with it as the back tire is rubbing, wasn't before.

                        how did I find it...

thats the wierd part.. in fact the cops asked me three times about that, I literally followed my intuition across town, thru wtisting allywats and prkinglots etc... each intersection or turn of a road I picked: hot vs cold

                        drove right to the bike

that is: twisting alleyways, and parking lots

                          it's been a stressfull weekend

and as far as caught/ prosecution, the cop said don't bother, the prosecutor will not persue motorcycle theft cases, cop didnt even pull prints when asked

I said to him: "thanks! good to know I can steal motorcycles and you won't do anything about it!"

Check that the swing arm is still centered. Should not be more than 0.062 (1.6mm) difference right/left "gap".

If still centered then something may be bent

Last I heard, theft of property was a crime, and it's their job to at least "Attempt" to investigate it. Personally, I would file a complaint. You may have just run into one individual cop that didn't feel like doing his job, and his boss should know about it. If this is truly the case, that they don't/ won't prosecute bike theft, there are probably hundreds of people in your area that would like to know about that (Bike riders). Write the local paper... they love stuff like that... and write your representative. I think this is something that needs to be brought to light. Most people I know feel more attached to their bikes than anything else they posess. I'd hate to think that someone could steal it without fear of consequences for doing it.
My bike may not be much to look at right now, but if someone stole it, the cops BETTER investigate. All I have to say about that is that THEY better find them before I do.....
