Ok - I posted on here about my snapped spark plug - the my snapped extractor in the spark plug hole.
I've bitten the bullet and taken the head off, it's now in the machinists getting cleaned and heli coiled - That's the good news.
Here's the kicker and if I had the ability I would indeed be kicking my own arse for being such a f@#*ing dimwit.
While stripping the inlet cam off I dropped one of the bearing cup washers straight down the timing chain hole !!!!!
There's no sign of it and fishing around with a magnet doesn't produce anything - please please please don't tell me I now have to do a complete engine strip. It's only little it might be OK?? is there any other way of seeing what's in the case?

Hey Sip,

Are you familiar with the Yamaha Online Microfiche site, if not, you can find it in the LINKs section! Go there, to the camchain section for your year/model, and you'll see the chain tensioner has this shelf as part of it's design, it may have fallen there, and with oil, could have just stuck!

You can pull the bottom tranny pan off without pulling the engine and you may find it has fallen down into it!? This is why they say to stuff a RAG down into the cam chain tunnel to prevent this!

GeorgeFix sells good stuff, but it's not all needed with a regular rebuild/cleaning! BTW, don't use the rubber pilot jet tower plug!

Sip, the washer in the sump won't be a problem, the oil pump is screened with mesh, the washer will sit in the sump recess, but if you wanna get it out, you only need unbolt the sump pan. 14 bolts. 77 bucks for carb kits, waste of money if the carbs are all O.K. especially if those kits have non-mikuni parts, but maybe worth it if the carb components are all seized and corroded - which won't be the case if the bike's runnin O.K. Individual mikuni jets are about 5 or 6 bucks each.

Only dropped one washer down the hole? You need to remove the oil pan first. Then, lay on your back on the left side of the bike with your feet towards the front wheel. Reach over with your right hand and put it up inside the open hole with your fingers forward. Chances are you will put your hand right on the washer. If you don't find it immediately, pat around with your fingers.

How can you do it without splitting the case - I thought the chain was endless?

cut chain, link or wire chains together, feed through, rivit new chain.
