Well, when your country isn't much bigger than NY State, I guess you run out of touring places pretty quickly? Of course performance usually means faster/quicker.... again with those distances.....WHY ?

I read one the difference between England and America:
America thinks 100 years is a long time,
England thinks 100 miles is a long distance

              Ring Gear?

Hey chop, I'm sure youve tried this and could prob just run search to find, being lazy tonight! Will the Ring gear only interchange? i.e. xs750/xs1100 Thinking about picking up fd unit to play around with over the winter. I like the sound of this mod.---------------better gas milage, no more quick shift to 2nd etc.

Has anyone looked at the XS850 FD? I have a guy that's got one loose and cheap. I may check it out tomorrow. American beer tases like cold Alka Seltzer over carbonated even standard beers are already light in taste. Naming a beer "Bud light" (just to name one) is a redundentcy.

                  ring gear

If you read the begging post, there is no ring/pinion to change. just get a xs750 final drive. The xs850 final drive I personally didn't see the back side of it to tell. If it has a different gear housing(SMALLER) than the xs11'S, then I would say that IT IS THE SAME AS XS750 and would work.....chop

I just got a rear end in from a '77 XS750 I got on eBay for $29.00 including shipping.

I won’t be doing too much riding with this since my right wrist was just put back into a cast for 6 to 8 weeks. BUT----- I've got a spare drive shaft that my son, the machinist is going to lengthen 5/8" for me. So this will get mounted next week and tried out by my sons and very limitedly by me.

I was looking at the holes in part #12 (haven't taken it off yet), and if possible, I'll tap them and locktite in set screws, or maybe just weld (MIG) them up.

SWMBO will love this modification. One reason she let me get my XJ is because it's a motorcycle and get great gas mileage. Was she ever mad when she found out that her Sentra got better mileage than my 1100. I just haven't been able to convince her that mileage doesn't mean much when you can have so much fun in getting from here to there or wherever.

                      Hey louis,

You beat me at that auction. Left me with one second left. Thats good bidding. No hard feelings. I'm glad it was someone here that won. Anyways congradulations on the win. Hope your wrist heals quick and good luck with the fd swap. I'm off to find me one now.

I just got a XS750 FD on Ebay for 10 bucks plus 10 ship. It is from a 78. I can't wait to try this mod. I am currently doing the 1179cc Wiseco kit. My bike is set up for touring and I am after the better gas mileage. I also got an extra XS11 drive shaft. Those of you who are attempting a custom extension on the XS11 drive shaft, please let me know how it comes out.

                          custom shaft

I should have mine back at the end of this week. I will post pics and give exact detail how it is done. The only thing I worry about is the swingarm housing rubbing on the new shaft because it will be 3/16 to 1/4 inch thicker in total diameter....chop..... p.s. ....so far not a single problem from the $1.29 copper sleeve mod!

XSchop, I'm going early tomrrow to see the junk man about the 850 FD. I'll check the numbers carefuly. How about some pictures of part #12 and the mod.?
PS I've got my rear brake mod. nearly done. Low mounted and dual piston, all I have to do is make a torque (anchor) rod and weld it to the under side of the swingarm. Then plumb it.
                              Cheers, 50gary

Gar here's an alternative to welding the torsion bar solid, it 'floats' or swings on both caliper and inside swingarm and allows easy caliper/wheel removal.
