    Source for rings?

    Does anyone know where I can find standard size aftermarket rings? I know they are still available through Yamaha, but at a breathtaking price. Does anyone know any rings that cross? Or at least the specs (diameter and thickness) so I can see who might offer the same spec rings for different machine?

      I would suggest this listing rather then the standard rings unless you are starting out with brand new cylinders.

          I saw those, too. But would I have issues putting OS rings on standard pistons in standard cylinders? Normally I would think I'd have to get .25 OS pistons and have the cylinders bored out to use these. Can I use these just to take up the slack for years of wear?

              That's what I used a few years back when I rebuilt Tsunami - 1st over rings on the standard pistons.

                              Idea!!

                              Usually you can trim rings to size. I don't know if it can be done with the rings in our bikes or not??? Insert the rings into the cylinder square them up with a piston about mid cylinder. Then use a feeler guage to measure the end gap of the rings. There is usually a spec for this distance. The rings can then be trimmed to correct spec's. I think size one over should work!!!!

                                  Never had it on a dyno, but it seems to have all the power it needs, mileage is good, no unexpected engine sounds. I think I've got 5 or 6 years on the rebuild, might have to check the compression one day just for something to do.
