Hope this topic can be dropped in this forum and has not been beat to death, but I am new here and I need to get the scoop ASAP -sorry for all the details.
I have been working on my bike (78 XS11, 8K mi).
the bike had 3k when I got it - with most of that coming over the first three years. The guy I got it from ran some kind of high test gunk cleaner through the bike - it took a while to run that stuff through. After a few sets of plugs things wer going pretty well. Dropped in a new set of plugs, but they eventually fouled off. Another new set it took awhile but they eventually fouled off to.
Currently The carbs have been removed/cleaned up, timing adjusted, tuned, fuse block upgrade, have moved up to a hotter plug from a 6 to 5 - all this being done by someone with a great deal more knowledge than I about XS11. I am learning as we go...
There is a minor hesitation right around 3000 RPM - as soon you crack the throttle and get past that minor hesitation she takes off like a rocket. after putting the new plugs in -ran about 25 mi - the two outside cyl plugs are burning a little dark. We Swapped them out with the center cyl and they burn clean - same problem with the outside cyl. After runnig ohm checks on the rest of the wiring it looks like the pick up coils are the problem- specifically the fine wire.
would ya agree? should I be looking at anything else? The pick up coil wires have not been spliced ( repir tips), but my buddy thinks you could just soldier them directly.
thanx
