WOW I just took it for a test Run and it is worst now and the plugs were black as black can be, How the hell Can a engine with STOCK jetting be running RICH after putting on a 4 into 1 header and pod filters. It's beyond me I'll tell you. I owned a 78 model in 1980 and with one main jet size bigger and one down on the needle the bike ran VERY VERY well. This thing is a mystery to me so I will at this point LEAN out the mid range by LOWERING the needle 1 position over stock.
    Unreal

Question, are you plugs wet black or dry black?

OK I pulled the carbs and dropped the needles 1 notch and test drove the bike. The issue with the bogging out or serious stumbling is now at about 5500 RPM so a Minor improvement. It also behaves the same if a crank the throttle as well. So I don't want to drop the needle any further so I'm not sure where to go next. I need the #45 pilot jet for a smooth idle but perhaps I can dial it down further
          Any other ideas guys

THE HELL with POD filters for now

OK .. I just went for a ride with my drilled AIR BOX back on the bike and the dial-A-Jet set in the middle position. Needle jet is still in the lean position . WELL ... my entire mid range had been found and the bike goes like snot!!! I have smooth idle, STRONG midrange and good top end. I think I will save myself some cash for the time being and leave well enough alone.
