Bike looks good. I just bought a '79. What did you do to lower it, how much did it drop it and how much did it cost? Sorry for the questions...I'm a newbie.

Its actually really simple to lower, on the rear, I took apart the stock shocks and cut 1 1/2 coils out of the shock spring, and put them back together. The front is a little trickier, depending on what handlebars you use. Just loosen the bolts on the triple trees that secure the fork tubes, and slide the forks up into the trees. On a stock XS you can only lower it until the forks hit the handlebars, but with the bars and risers I installed, you can lower it much more.

Oh, I didn't think you could take apart the rear shocks. How do they come apart?

Hey Mr. dragracer.
Now is a bad time for me, otherwise I'd be very interested. It's a good possibility I'll be in Tucson for a wedding in Sept. If you still have the bike then, I'll look you up. Probably trailer my bike down there anyway. Though, no more stoplight drags for me. Between the 73K on the od. and the bore kit, the tranny doesn't take full throttle in 1st, & 2nd anymore. Been meaning to get that fixed. Anyway, good luck.

Have a look at the shock compressor tool on this catalog page:


A large, heavy-duty valve spring compressor will also do the job, but is a wee bit more dangerous as it will tend to slip off of a compressed spring unexpectedly if you don't have it well wired on. That's why the unit in the ad has a safety cap.

I guess I am extremely cheap then, because I used a floor jack and the brushguard on my wifes jeep... hahaha. It worked great too....I guess a little dangerous, but I do Own an XS11, so thats a little dangerous too...Isnt it??

.. it looks like your auction had alot of interest, may i ask how much your reserve was?

I had a reserve price of $1900.00. Not sure why the bids were so low, but there are quite a few other Xs's for sale on ebay (although they need alot of work). So maybe people arent willing to pay for a Nice XS??? I am in contact with a couple enthusiasts via phone that are seriously interested in buying it. I would much rather sell the Bike to someone that likes them as much as I do.
