Has anyone tried Yamaha's fuel tank rust remover? I just discovered it on the following link.

I used to use it when I worked in a Yamaha dealership 20 odd years ago. It works very well.

I think there are other solutions now that are easier to come by.

      johnsons

look into johnsons tank liner. I have my tanks done with this and is the best route from my experience. This is the liner after the treatment of HPO3. I have posted before that citric acid will clean your tank rust without destroying any new metal. the phosphoric acid (HPO3) sacrifices some of the surface metal to make the new iron phosphate coating. So the question at hand is if you have a light rusted tank or heavily rusted tank....chop

        Hey Chop,

Yah, my tank only has surface rust. I'll look for your post on citric acid. Thanks.

          FYI

If anyone is interested I tried the Yamaha rust remover. So far it seems to work. Just one word of caution, make certain that you have no leaks through the petcock holes or fuel sender hole before you add the rust remover to your tank.
