xj 1100 engine stall

  • xj 1100 engine stall

    i hope someone can help,i have a 83maxim 1100
    when i put the bike into gear it snuffs out engine
    i have just pulled out the middle gear to rebuild it
    bearings were toast does someone have an answer
    to this problem?

    You have a sidestand safety switch on your bike. It's the problem.(95%)
    Take a look at the wires around the middle drive unit. If you have one that has been pinched, that may be it.

      checked for pinched wires everything checks out,is there another way to test? could it be clutch related?

        I would use a VOM to check the wires. The manual with a wire diagram helps. If I remember, you can unplug the wire off the switch, put a little tape over it, and then try again. If it goes in gear, then the switch is bad.

          Hey!

          I resemble that remark!

          Actually the XJ side stand switch is known to fail. Unplug it and use an ohm meter to test it with the stand up and down.
