I just picked up a complete engine today with a set of Mikuni VM33A 14 roundslide carburetors and a RC Performance header and exhaust system. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this company and if so, could they point me in the right direction to get some information on their products. Also the engine starts with 3H3-....... what year motor is this, it has the kickstart shaft so I am assuming that is a 79? One more thing, does anyone have any info on the Mikuni roundslide carburetors as far as tuning them?

Mikuni VM33
Go to Google and search on "Mikuni VM33".
I ran a set of these on my 'F' for a short while. They are kind of an "OFF/ON" type of carb. Great for drag racing, not so great for touring. Uner 2000 RPM they are very flat. Above that, "Great Ball of Fire"! It was not easy to hold a steady RPM.
The ones I used required dual throttle cables (pull open/pull closed) which mean I could not used the stock throttle housing.
I tried to sell the set on eBay a few of years ago for $100 with cables and throttle. Now body was interested.DZ

DZ,
Do you think the pull on-pull off feature is a safety item that eliminates the need for a throttle return spring, yet gives you a positive way to cut off the throttle? It does sound like those carbs are more of a racing proposition than a cruising item. Do you remember what type of mileage you got when you had them on the bike?
Have you thought about trying to sell them to Bandet in Ohio? He's bound and determined to crack into the 12's this year at the drag strip, might be willing to make the carb switch._________________

Check with Bandet, he's looking for some help to get into the 12's at the drag strip this year._________________

The set of carbs I that I got have a very large, very strong return spring on them. It takes a good bit of force to get the slides to rise so I doubt that you would need the push pull throttle for them. The PO that I got the engine from recalls that after the 2k the bike would pull like a "freight train"! I think that I will be putting either the 1179 or 1196 kit in the motor along with 2nd gear fix as my winter project and then possibly stuf it into my 78 or find another donor that needs a good engine!!!
