  • dimple in tank

I just got my xj1100j 2 weeks ago let someone sit on it and i turned my head it dropped. Scuffed the windshield by the left turn signal and the handlebar put a quarter sized dimple in the top back of the tank near your inner left thigh. The dimple is only 1/16 - 1/8 deep. Any ways of getting this looking normal again it bugs me everytime i goto sit on it.

Go to the local auto parts store and buy a valve lapping stick. They have a suction cup on both ends each a different size. Wet the largest suction cup that will fit , plop it onto the dent, and pull! Just might work...Terry

If fix #1 does not work go to a paintless dent repair company. It worked for me.

            jby,
Paintless dent repair company uses "spoons" to push the dents out without needing to repaint. It may cost a lot, for the job. You may also be able to take in the bike, and a car with one or two small dents, and get a package deal.
It IS a good way to go, and then it's done already, so you just paint when you are ready.

Really depends on the size/number of dents. Like Ray says "more dents/cheaper price".

I used a "Pops-a-Dent" (as seen on TV, infomertials) on several dents in my tank and Suburban. Worked quite well.

Had a small dent in the side of my special tank thanks to our neighbor's daughter. I took the tank from the bike and drained it then held the tank cap tightly shut and applied air into the tank through one of the petcocks. Used low pressure first then gradually raised the pressure with the regulator until the dent just popped out.

                    A bit airish

Watch your pressure, I sealed the petcock holes and the filler hole put air into it thru a petcock screw hole. I blew that tank so big it probably would have held 8 gallons. Except for the fact it was ruined I guess it was OK. It only took two seconds and a new tank fixed it right up.

I have heard a piece of dry ice rubbed over the dent on a hot day will do the trick, never seen it though
