  • New to the XS but glad I'm here

    Greetings from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

I love this website. I could and probably will read on for hours.

I purchased a 1980 XS1100 in December that needed the 1st and second gear fix. This is my fist time attempting something this technical but so far so good. I took the gears out. Swapped them with a set from a spare engine I got with the bike that seemed to already be fixed, nice. I put the gears back in today and everything seems to be OK except for the shredded lock washer that was trashed when I loosened the clutch main nut.

My question is this. There appeared to be a kickstarter assembly in the case that made removal of the gears more difficult. Since I don't have a kick starter I don't necessarily want to put it back in. Do I have to?

Thanks for all the sweet info. I'll post a pic once the old girl is put back together. Exams are finally over so now I can get this work done.

    Later Guys,

    Jason

    Getting your kicks???

    Hi ya canuck cruiser

    78/79 came stock w/Kick starter.

80 and up did not, so if you do have an 80 someone had to add it.
Several guys here would like to have that assembly if you decide to leave it out.

Welcome canuck, what mro said but I would use it if ya got it. It comes in handy for those times you want to just roll the motor over and you could also use it for it's intended use in a pinch.
There's always a way, figure it out.

        Kickstart my heart?

Thanks for the info guys. I am still on the fence about the unit. I can remember how many times I wish my car had a kick starter so instead I just kicked it. I'll let you know if I wish to get rid of it.

        Thanks again,

        Jason

Ps gears back in the bike repair almost done woo hoo. I can't wait to ride this beast.

          Mine is out

Took my kickstart assembly out two years ago, the previous ownerbroke off part of the stop assembly inside the casing so it wouldnt work anyway.

            Hey Bruce,

I was wondering if there were any guys here from NS. Where do you go around here for a good ride.

            Cheers,

            Jason
