Greetings from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
I love this website. I could and probably will read on for hours.
I purchased a 1980 XS1100 in December that needed the 1st and second gear fix. This is my fist time attempting something this technical but so far so good. I took the gears out. Swapped them with a set from a spare engine I got with the bike that seemed to already be fixed, nice. I put the gears back in today and everything seems to be OK except for the shredded lock washer that was trashed when I loosened the clutch main nut.
My question is this. There appeared to be a kickstarter assembly in the case that made removal of the gears more difficult. Since I don't have a kick starter I don't necessarily want to put it back in. Do I have to?
Thanks for all the sweet info. I'll post a pic once the old girl is put back together. Exams are finally over so now I can get this work done.
Later Guys,
Jason
