You couldn't find a place to camp in the Keewanee? There's a crap ton of places up there, ask a local for their advice! Also, try out the following resources;

Rec.gov
Reserve America

Go to the national Forest Field offices directly, there's often many small campgrounds not listed on their websites.

You can also camp anywhere you want on national Forest property as long as you're at least one mile from an established campground.

You can also camp anywhere you want on state forest land in Michigan with a permit. Go to the DNR website and download the permit, attach it to your tent, DONE! No charge, nobody to report to.

I have government maps of the national forests, but they haven't been selling Ottawa National Forest for a while, so I don't have that one. I was already pretty far away from the national and state forests when I got to Houghton.

I rode around the area south of Houghton. I stopped and asked one guy who had a sign for camping, but he didn't have any bathroom facilities, so he couldn't accept tents.

While I was exploring the next day, I did find a campground northwest of Hancock - I think it's the same one in the Lost in 'da UP thread.

Anyway, I appreciate your advice. My adventure is "just another day" for you.
